PCS Backup
PCS Backup was created to provide myself and my clients with a reliable and inexpensive method to make backups on Windows based computers.

Features
- Runs on demand or as a scheduled task.
- Utilizes the Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS), when available, to backup in-use files.
- Backups can be placed on an external device or a network location.
- No special software is required to read or access backups. Files are copied in their native format and the folder structure is duplicated from the source to the backup target.
- Runs quickly. When a backup medium is reused, PCS Backup saves time by searching for and acting on only the differences between the source and the target.
Please note that PCS Backup does a full backup every time it runs. This means that deleting a file or folder from the source causes it to also be deleted from the backup target the next time the backup job runs. Rotating through multiple backup media is recommended for increased data protection.
Requirements
PCS Backup has been used successfully on:
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
- Windows 2003
- Windows 2008
- Windows 7
VSS is not supported, however, when using Windows XP. Windows XP does include VSS capability but its implementation is less sophisticated. So I chose not to include support for VSS in PCS Backup when running under Windows XP.
Microsoft .Net 3.5 is required. If needed it can be downloaded from
this link.
Installation
Download the installation file from the link on this page. Run the downloaded file to begin installing. The installation program will create a folder named "PCSBackup" in the root of drive C. All Program files will be placed in this folder. An icon for launching the program will be placed on the desktop. PCS Backup creates job files and log files as it runs. These files are stored in subfolders of the PCSBackup folder.
To uninstall the program just delete the PCSBackup folder and the desktop icon.
